Normally it’s as soon as all of his injections are finished. So once he’s allowed out then you can start puppy classes. Some of the training establishments begin with a playgroup that teaches very basic skills but also allows them to socialise with other puppies which is a very important step in raising a steady, level-headed, sensible dog.

    About 6 months I’ve heard.

Once all the puppy shots are done including rabies it’s time to get started.

I actually started training my own at home before they could even attend classes, but the classes are great for learning and socialization too.

    six months usually. :)

Normally after they have had all their injections. Say you get your puppy at 8 weeks, have injections a week later and their econd lot two weeks later – I would say about 11 weeks old.

i would be happy to help, but i dont really understand your question.. can you explain further?

Old enough to be away form it’s mother for prolonged periods of time, so probably around 6 weeks.

they have to have all their injections, otherwise they wont let them in the training school. usually about 5-6 months. but you can start training him yourself from as soon as you have the puppy.

Puppy kindergarden is usually around 8 to 12 weeks old then on to another level of classes!

Check with the classes in your area. Many different ages, many different classes. General puppy classes around here start at four months, but not for obedience. obedience starts at four months here.

Finished his vaccinations.. approx 16 weeks.

You’ll get different answers to this question. I’d say at least 10 weeks and first vaccines. I like early training because it takes advantage of socialization period and helps owner make a good start. Others will say not until fully vaccinated. Both have their merits.

Lauren, if you work at Petsmart you should know that their classes start much earlier than 6 months. I think it’s 2 months.

If your pup is current on vaccinations, you can bring him to a Puppy Kindergarten for socialization.

Training should really be done with a private trainer because the distraction level is WAY too high for a pup at the group classes. Those classes are, however, a wonderful way to see how your already trained dog performs under the distractions of that environment.

The 6 months time period that people are talking about are only for compulsion training. For positive reinforcement and motivational training, training can and should begin earlier.

The main thing is to bond with the pup and establlish good obedience groundwork…but not to correct the pup or put too much pressure on them.

If you go to a private trainer that uses motivational training, training can begin around 15 weeks for some quick-learning breeds, 20 weeks or so for some of the slower breeds.

Either way, a good trainer should just show you how to train your dog…so the sessions are mostly for you, anyway, and you’ll get out of it exactly what you put into it.

good luck and enjoy your pup!

once they have all thier shots, usually about 3 months is good. most classes ask for shot records and if they dont, dont take your dog. its a health risk. but start training at home the minute you walk in the door, always be consistent, and reward huge!

not 6 months about 8 weeks. that is the age i took mine at petsmart.

  • minaphan9

at least 10-12 months but i would suggest if it’s STRONG and HEALTHY to do activities such as running, catching, etc. , because puppies can tire out easily so give it some time.

also give it shots because it might have rabies and so on

dont feed it too much canned food because it’s even healthier to give it dry food with fresh water

i had 7 puppies at birth and when they grew up (5 months) they can already destroy 1/2 of my garage!

    about 6 months

  • miss p

As soon as he has had all his jabs, the sooner he mixes with other dogs the better behaved he will be.

  • mangafreak

you can start a class at 12 weeks. definetly have all the shots before you go.

  • janet_james1948

it depends on the dog and also if he or she has had all their shots. My friend started taking her dog when he was 4 mos old because he was unruelie and she couldnt train him but I have never taken a dog to puppy classes

  • L B

he has to be fully vaccinated so that would make him no younger than 12 weeks, probably 16 weeks. After that, any time, and well done you for taking him!

  • Rose P

As soon as its vaccinations are given – then find a good local
dog training club . Ask if you can go and watch and if you think they are ok then join. . I belong to a training club and see a lot of folk who – not having previous knowledge of training – have got their pups to sit by pushing down on their back legs – DONT – can cause lots of problems. Wait until you get expert knowledge – dog clubs are not only for training dogs they are also a good way of socialising you and dog . We have made many friends and that cant be bad. Also pup can meet with other pups thus socialising him ready for when he goes out on lead and meets other dogs.
