I have two! First, unless you know that you are going to breed, get him fixed. That stopped alot of our problems. As soon as he realizes that barking at your boy friend is unacceptable he will stop, with that being said try a cheap bark collar. Just use it when the boyfriend comes over. That will probably fix the problem. However I know Vizslas are the best dog and extremely smart. He senses something you do not, so get a new boyfriend!!! You need to be undisputed leader of the pack: what you say, goes. You may need to work on establishing leadership. Consider obedience training with your dog. 6 miles of a free run is good exercise, but only after at least 40 minutes of walking on a leash, with you in charge. This may seem unrelated to his behavior, but it has everything to do with having your dog respect you and your leadership. As for the immediate problem of the anti-social behaviors when your boyfriend is around, consider what the dog wants: your undivided attention. When the dog barks, humps, etc., remove it from the room, immediately. When it is allowed to return, remove it again as soon as the misbehavior starts. Don't scold or be angry--No. is enough, firmly and without passion, coupled with removal. The second he starts that behavior you and your boyfriend should get up, and walk out of the room, closing the door behind you. Then return to the room and pay attention to him, but if he continues you do this again, and again. When you are able to walk into the room and pay him attention without him doing this behavior tell him good boy and give him a treat. It may take several days but he really will catch on. Or you can try having a place gated off to put him in, instead of you two leaving the room, but still do it the same way. Hope that helps, you really should try this. But, for the question, you should probably exercise him ALL THE TIME. these are active dogs. If this doesn't work, get him a girlfriend, or advertise him as a stud in the newspaper and people may ask for his services. Hope this helps.
