David G asked:
I have a 6 year old Hungarian Vizsla who I am thinking of having castrated. The reason for this is he keeps mounting my spayed ***** and annoying her. He is also a little aggressive on the lead when he sees another dog and can run off in the field to chase other dogs. He won’t come back when called when he is in this mood. Has anyone else had any experience with this, or any advice?

YES. He takes off to find a ***** to mate with. Have him neutered and this should calm down his behavior. Just note that it takes a little while for them to realize they don’t have the boys anymore and he will calm down.
That will help with the behavior, however some obedience training will also need to be performed. Being aggressive isn’t a characteristic you want to see in an intact Vizsla if you wanted to breed him anyway. Go ahead and get him neutered. Then start some obedience lessons.
Personally I think all dogs should be spayed or neutered due to the mass overpopulation of dogs in this country.
neutering won’t help
training will
Castration might help but so will training. The running off is learned behavior. This dog has learned to ignore your come command.
Castration isn’t a cure all for bad behaviour. You might have him castrated and will find it doesn’t make the slightest bit of difference to his running off or even his behaviour. Try taking him to training classes first. It is possible to train an older dog, it just takes a little longer.
I absolutely agree with anwen55. Your dog is now 6 years old and castrating is probably a bit late in the day to make any difference. I’m not saying it won’t work – I just find that many people will believe it is an easy answer to behavioural problems. You may end up out of pocket and a dog that still does all of these things.
However – I do believe in neutering any pet that’s not used to mating….. but it would have been better to do the op. long ago.
I’m afraid IMO you would be best going to training classes – I’ve rescued dogs for years that have all had different backgrounds and no matter what their age – have always taken them to training classes – it really helped with their behavioural problems and improved their social skills!!!!
Find out about your nearest classes and go next week…. good luck
