My vet gave me a list of local puppy classes when my puppy had his 2nd lot of vaccinations. They also invited us to a puppy party for newly vaccinated pups, lol. Speak to your vet, they’ll be able to help you out. ☺

Completely agree with the previous comment, your local vet is a great place to find training classes.

There’s a lot of things that you can teach your puppy without going to classes (toileting outside, recall, sit etc) BUT the puppy classes are the perfect place to socialize your puppy i.e. teaching the puppy how to behave with other dogs.

You should also take your puppy out (carrying him until he’s had his injections) to meet people, children, trans, buses in fact just about everything that’s out there in that big scary world.

I start training my pups as soon as their eyes open. There really is not a too soon so much as there is a too much. Easy positive lessons are best.

This is my favorite training website:

Stitch’s blog helps when I’m feeling like I’m not getting it right!

Make sure you enroll in a puppy kindergarten as soon as the pup has had all its immunizations.

Thanks for researching BEFORE you get the puppy!!!

    Hi,

Not sure about exact puppy schools, but if you call the local vets in your area they usually have some information on local puppy training classes and might even run puppy classes themselves. Your puppy can start training straight away! My yorkie puppy was sitting, giving his paw and lying down on command at 7 weeks old. They are like babies at this age and their little brains are like sponges taking everything in. It’s vital you set down rules and boundaries right away for your pup to grow up balanced and happy.

They can’t start ‘official’ training schools until the are 14 weeks old, two weeks following their second vaccination. You should take your pup out as much as possible before hand to expose him to as many sights, sounds and smells as possible. He might be afraid of most things and in such a situation never comfort your dog if he is acting afraid, he only learns that they are things to be afraid of. Take your dog to the local park to see lots of people and other dogs, just don’t put him on the ground!

My dog was a nervous wreck when he was little, afraid of anything and everything constantly jumping up at me to pick hi m up etc, but I never gave in to him and even though it might sound like I was being harsh he has learned now that he has to stand on his own four feet :-) He trusts me completely, respects me and is relatively obedient (he still has his moments, but he’s only 5 months old) Some dogs are naturally disciplined while others need work. I have two collies who have never put a foot wrong and never had any official training. They really are perfect dogs, and I love my yorkie just as much but he has definitely been a challenge so i’m pleased I started the training immediately.

good luck with your new puppy and well done for taking the time out to research and prepare yourself for your new arrival!
Read Cesar Milan’s books on dogs if you get the chance, he’s far better than any of the other dog psychologists and his training and advice genuinely works. His theories are basic but also overlooked by most dog trainers.

Make sure you find a good training class which uses kind training methods and is well organised and run.
Find your local training class here:
Classes cost £3 – £5 per night, maybe a bit more in London.
Take your puppy as early as possible, as soon as she has had her innoculations
    Good Luck!
