Water parameters are fine. I have 8 koi from 30cm to 45cm. Pond is 6feet deep. Pump fed. Gravity return. 4 bay filter (1 mechanical, 1 K1 media, 2 Jap matting) Hi blow 80 airating fillter. Water is very clean i.e. no suspended solids. Fish are showing no sign of ill health.
Not algae UV clarifier inline in pipework.

It is probably caused by an algae growth get some chemicals from your fish store or vacuum out all the algae. and top up with clean water

  • Vicious Tuna

Chlorine tabs, or maybe just add a couple of Plecostemuses.

  • I don't know

I think the question is best asked in a hobbist web site like

I’m a member there also. I am not sure what causes yellow/brown color, it may or may not be algae. Most algae can be cleared up by using a pond algaecide.

KMNO4 works wonder on a algae as well. Please join the board and ask the question there.

Hi there, I think probably you need to add to your filter a product (forgotten name)that will kick start the bugs lurking in your pond these bugs actually keep the water crystal clear. I had the same problem for years with my big pond because the water temperature fluctuated so much it had an effect on the bugs in the filter. Once I added those extra bugs ‘Voila’ no problem. Does the pond water have a strange odour? I take it if your are a purist you do not have any plants in your pond; It could be that you do not have the Ph at the correct level. If you do have plants then it could also be that you do not have the correct planting levels and that perhaps you do not have sufficient shade. One word of warning if you introduce plants or marginals into your pond leave them soaking in a bucket of pondwater for a week or two just in case the plants have worms or snails hidden in them. Once you get ponds worms it can have be heart breaking as they systismatically burrow their way into the skin of the fish which can be fatal as they lay eggs under the skin of the fish. I had to empty my pond and get rid of my fish it was really bad. Tetra have a really good website that gives really good advice and help with problems; that I found really useful. Good luck with your problem and enjoy your pond. I really miss mine and all the pond life that came with it.
