Linzy Lou asked:
I have a 10 week old female boxer. She has been really good since we got her, she hasnt cried for her mother or littermates at all, she sleeps downstairs in her bed with a puppy heatpad. She goes to the back door when she wants to go out but just lately she has been having a few accidents inside, i know this is understandable as she is young but i was wondering if it could be because it is cold and wet outside and she doesnt like it?
She is also very hyperactive, jumping up at everyone and on furniture, i dont know if its best to ignore it or firmly tell her NO!
She has a habit of chasing my feet and biting them, i dont know what to do????

if you tell it something make sure it does it ,,,, it will cach on make it fun.. good luck
bless! i love boxers! the hyper thing is relative to most boxers, just teach them not to jump up, dont let them lick your face and keep pushing them down and punishing them.
as for the accidents, when ever she does one inside, rub her face in it or put it in her bed, she will soon learn
lmao……..mine is 9 and wont go out in the rain I got to make her,she not to bad with her shoes on though! You have to be firm and say no but its another thing to get her to listen its all part of having a Boxer ……..good luckx

I had a boxer and they can be a handful! Your little girl is just playing and not being hyperactive. If she jumps on you, gently push her down and firmly say No. Jumping can be a big problem with boxers. She also will probably continue to have accidents for a while. Did you consider puppy kindergarten for her at all? They could really help you with controlling her before she gets out of hand. Good luck. I have a 13 week and a 6 month old Sheltie puppy now. They have been almost too good.

My advice is to get professional advice. We are all dog lovers here, but we are not prodessional dog trainers. A well intentioned, but inaccurate comment can lead to all sorts of behaviour problems.
My dog training club only recommend one dog training manual to all our new members. You can download it instantly online and is very reasonably priced. You can have this problem sorted out by the end of the week using the methods detailed in the book.
Daniel Stevens is a professional dog trainer and I cannot recommend his simple yet effective techniques enough.
HELLLOOOO…
I have had a big dog before and used to let him get away with murder. When he was 1.5 I had to give him to a friend of the family because I just couldn’t handle him any more.
Big dogs like to be in control. You need to nip it in the bud now while your pup is still learning. If you let it on the furniture it will think its got authority (thats the last thing you want). Let her know that you are its master. Never let her eat from your plate, If you are giving her your left overs MAKE SURE you put it in her bowl. Treat her when she is well behaved and let her know when she is doing some thing wrong.
Some people smack there dogs, if you are one of them DO NOT USE YOUR HAND. Use newspaper, if u dont and use your hand the dog will asociate your hand with being in trouble.
GOOD LUCK ANY WAY AND ENJOY!
For the messing in the house, you are probably right that she doesn’t want to go outside where it is cold and wet. To solve this, consistency is key. Crate training or the umbilical method can help a lot, or a combination of the two. Crate training is basically keeping the dog in a dog crate (cage) when she is unsupervised, because dogs usually don’t like to mess where they sleep. She won’t like it for a couple of days, but that usually passes quickly. The trick is to make the crate a happy place, not a punishment. Put her bed inside, because she already knows it’s hers and that will make the transition easier. When she isn’t in the crate, she must be supervised and not allowed to mess in the house. The umbilical method can help here, because it is basically keeping her leashed in the house so she can’t get out of your supervision. Dogs generally can’t remember what they have done for more than a few seconds, so if you don’t catch her in the act, don’t punish her or she won’t understand why you don’t love her anymore. Also, teach her to go on command. Pick a command word or phrase (we use Go now), and when she does go outside to go, use it. Tell her the command when it looks like she’s about to go, and then praise her profusely when she obeys. It may be a few weeks before she makes the connection between the command and what she does, but it will help.
As for the bad behavior, the jumping and biting, one of the best correction tools I have found is a ****** gun or generic spray bottle (you can buy them from the hardware store, usually for only a few dollars) full of plain water. If you use a spray bottle, make sure it has never been filled with anything other than water. When she misbehaves, tell her No firmly once, and then spray her if she persists. These tips have helped us with many dogs, and hopefully they will help you too. Good luck with the puppy.
Hi when your dog has an accident and you do not see them do not punish them as you could get in to the understanding of your dog realising that once i mess you will appear even if its good or bad company i have your attention.
As with jumping and being hyper … regular exercise can get rid of a lot of energy but it is also vital to challenge them mentally as if they are shut in or away they can get hypo at visitors or your return.
I have found that sticking to the same simple command and if when goes to behave badly just adjust that behaviour by mimicking the sound of a spray. you need to get there attention quick to distract from this behaviour.
I would also recommend you watch cesar millan on sky three as these are very regular things he treats and stops in people’s home.
Hi there, for a start never ever punish her, the best way to train is to ignore the bad and reward her when she is good. You need to train her from the start, first of all you need her to associate that you are the boss this is not by telling her off, when you first meet her even after going out of the room you need to ignore for the first five minutes and when she jumps up step back, turn around and ignore her and after five minutes when she is calm and sitting then approach her and reward her for being calm and quite. You need to do this and get everyone that comes into your house to greet you first and again ignore her for five minutes and then when she is calm and once they have greeted you then they can stroke her but if she jumps up ignore her and so on.
Also everytime it is her feeding time make sure you eat first even if it is a biscuit, put biscuits on the side for everyone (get everyone in your house to do it) and also put her bowl and fill it with her food, let her see you do this and make sure shes there to watch all of you eat first and then when you have finished put her food on the ground and just walk away and let her eat, this is a way of establishing that you are higher up in the pack then she is because the alpha always eats first. Again to establish that you are boss make sure you walk through every door first, make her sit and then you walk trough and she can follow, and when you are walking her make sure she walks to heel and when you get the lead out make her sit calmly before putting it on.
About the toilet problem everytime you see her squat or turn around in a circle sniffing the floor take her outside and say a word you want her to associate with going to toilet such as wee wee, or **** and take her to a certain spot in the area that you will use everytime, and then when she does do it say the word and praise her with your words and actions and you can give her a treat, this way she will realise that going outside gets her rewards. But when she does have an accident in the house do not let her see you clean it up other wise she will think its a game, take her out of the room and then clean it up but never ever punish her or put her nose in it other wise she will become scared and may go to toilet accidentally through fear.
About her biting your feet the reason she does this is not just because it is a game to her but within a pack of wolves the alpha(leader) will nip the other dogs to show them they ae boss, so once you have done the first things i have said and carry them on troughout her life she should calm down, but also when she does bite your feet pretend she has really hurt you by saying ouch loudly and pulling away and then ignore her, as ignoring is taking away all forms of contact and attention she wont like being ignored and will soon understand. Dogs are very clever and will run rings around their owners if they are allowed to.
Sorry about writing and essay but if you follow what i have advised then it should work but also have lots of fun with her and make sure you can touch every part of her body and through lots of play aswell as training you will build a stronger bond with her. well good luck and have lots of fun dogs are great company, and sorry again if ive rambled on. Good luck.
Also if you need further help read jan fennels books she is a very very good behaviorist.
