Anyone own a Vizsla?

Truth asked:

Had a lab for 16yrs and loved her. Ready for a new dog. A Vizsla was suggested. I know nothing about them. Who has one and can share some stories? Thanks

vizlas are great. everything about them you would like unless you do not want an energetic dog. dont get them if you plan on them sleeping all the time!!

I used to show some for a friend. Very nice dogs, but on the soft side (can’t take harsh training) and very high energy.

Here’s a good place for information

they are really cool and pretty.
I haven’t personally owned one but I’ve seen them and they are closely related to weimaraners, which I have experience with. Really pretty and shiny, and cool smart dogs. Pretty big though… if you want a big dog then it’s good.

The dog trainer of my dog has a Vizsla male dog. She is an expert in training and loves animals and adores dogs but she said that this breed is very hard and if you are not a serious experience dog owner and the ‘alpha’ type then you should not get a breed like this because they are ery hyper and strong willed. I do not have personal experience but won many animals including 3 rescue cats and one rescue dog and have had lots of hands on experience. My dog is a mix of Great Pyr and Anatolian Shepherd. very kind, loyal and calm. It is what ever you want and need really Good luck to you hunny~!

My brother-in-law had one. It was very sweet but very, very active. It never calmed down. He had to take that dog to tons of obedience classes just so that it could take basic direction. I loved the dog, but my brother-in-law got more dog than he could really handle. When he got married his wife was not pleased. Just this summer, after trying everything, they found a woman to take Shultz off their hands. Shultz is nine and still very, very active. Thankfully, they found the perfect home for him. The woman has several acres of land in Colorado and several other Vizlas for Shultz to play with. I agree with several others, that they are great dogs but they are only for those that really can give them the attention and activity that they really need.
