clicker training is excellent but if your dog does not like the noise of the clicker it won’t work. Positive training with food or toys are effective too. suggest you get a good book from library for training pups.

The best training methods are positive ones. Positive training re-enforces good behavior, as opposed to punishing the dog for bad behavior. Clicker training is a form of positive training because the clicker becomes associated with food for the dog, which is good.

I currently have an 8wk old puppy and I just snap my fingers to get her attention, use my voice to give her a command and positively re-enforce good behavior with treats and praise. It really seems to be working. She has already mastered sit, shake, high-5, and a quiet speak (its like a whisper of a bark).

There is not one single training method that works every single time though. If you are having trouble with training, take a different approach. Get creative. Just remember that training should be fun for your pup. If your puppy is having fun she will be more eager to participate in your training sessions. Break it down to few short sessions a day. If you start teaching her something new and it seems to be getting nowhere, do one more repitition and then end the session. Training should end on a positive note.

Clicker training does work but I do find that its easiest to get them to respond to a quick whistle. I don’t have to look for a clicker just pucker and blow

clicker training works…i didnt use it though because its a pain to have to have the clicker with you all the time…

i did training through petsmart and the instructor teaches you how to use the clicker ..then gives you the option to use it or not….i just use hand signals and specific commands….you can look at books or take obedience classes and they will guide you

Clicker training is fine – there are many other training methods, as well, though. Personally, I prefer to use my voice, as opposed to a clicker, as I don’t know that I will have a clicker on my person all the time for the rest of my dog’s life… the idea is to pair a sound (the clicker – or in my case, your voice) with a positive motivator (reward) like food. Don’t think of food as bribery, either – think of it as their paycheck… remember that puppies are babies and have limited attention spans, so don’t expect a doggie Einstein at 6 months old!

clicker training works i used it on all three of my shihzus and it works wonders i started when they were puppies getting them used to the sound of the clicker and then gradually i started using pieces of chicken when i used the clicker it did not take long for my dogs to associate the clicker with the chicken and training was easy when i wanted my dog to sit i used the clicker he sat and was rewarded with he chicken the same applied when he was off the lead and saw another dog i clicked the clicker rewarded my dog with he chicken and he did not go after the other dog it does work you just need to be patient but its a great way to train your dog

Sure, there are a gazillion alternatives to clicker training, but clicker training works just fine when done properly.
